Jerry Thomas Byrd

Jerry Thomas Byrd, age 82 of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mr. Byrd was born on February 22, 1943, in Wilkes County. He was the son of Jesse and Ola Adams Byrd. He graduated from Wilkes Central High School. On December 1, 1963, he married Brenda Carter. He was a long-time member of Oak Level Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company after many years of employment. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors, including countless hours in his vegetable garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters Betty Byrd Staley, Carolyn Byrd, and Mary Byrd Kanupp. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Byrd Dockery and her husband, Chuck, of Statesville; and granddaughter, Meredith Dockery of Chapel Hill. He is also survived by his sister Katherine Byrd Comer, brother Ricky Byrd and wife Kathy, brother-in-law Ray Kanupp, and several nieces and nephews.

The family sincerely appreciates the many years of outstanding care given to Mr. Byrd by the Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation staff.

A private graveside service will be held at Oak Level Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building and Grounds Fund of Oak Level Baptist Church, PO Box 123, Roaring River, NC 28669.
