John Elbert Billings

Mr. John Elbert Billings, age 89, of Elkin passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at his home. Mr. Billings was born January 10, 1932 in Wilkes County to Chester and Maye Elizabeth Absher Billings.

Mr. Billings attended Macedonia Baptist Church as long as his health permitted and retired from Chatham Manufacturing. He was a loving husband and devoted to his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Gray Billings; sister-in-law, Linda Billings and brothers-in-law, Charles Jordan and Benny Harold Burcham.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 35 years, Mary R. Billings of the home; brothers, Hubert Billings of North Wilkesboro, Donald Billings of North Wilkesboro; sisters, Helen Phillips Cockerham of Roaring River, Mildred Burcham of Jonesville, Geraldine Jordan of Roaring River, Erline Poplin and husband Kenneth of Roaring River; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Billings will lie-in-state from 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
