John Blackburn

Mr. John Walter Blackburn, age 80, of 165 Beech Tree Ct, Eden passed away January 24, 2022 at Brookdale High Point North after a brief illness. Mr. Blackburn was born in Elkin, NC to Walter “Pnut” Blackburn and Madelon Newman Blackburn.

Mr. Blackburn graduated from Elkin High School and was an airman first class for four years in the United States Air Force. He became a lifelong member of the Lions Clubs and obtained honorary lifetime membership. During his 60 plus years of membership he received the Melvin Jones award and served as president for six terms. As a member of the Lion’s Club he spent many Friday nights managing the concession stand at Moorehead High School in Eden. Mr. Blackburn spent several years as scout master in Elkin. He was a life time coin collector and spent many hours inspecting and collecting coins. His love for his church, Spray Baptist Church in Eden, was spent with children’s Sunday school, children’s church, and the nursery. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy McCoin Blackburn; brothers, Joe Blackburn, Kenneth Blackburn, and Jerry Blackburn.

Mr. Blackburn is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Rinda Law Blackburn; daughter, Stacey Pierce and her husband Brent; son, John Mitchell Blackburn; stepdaughter, Malissa Hundley and her husband Wayland; stepson, Bryant Reeser and his wife Wendy; grandsons, Sean Blackburn, Evan Blackburn, Logan Blackburn; step-granddaughter, Kinsley Reeser; sisters-in-law, Brenda Blackburn, Octavia Blackburn, Carol Blackburn; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jennifer Blackburn Bracey officiating.
