John Daniel Billings

Mr. John Daniel “J.D.” Billings, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Billings was born July 28, 1949 in Wilkes County to Ralph and Lura Absher Billings.

Mr. Billings was a dedicated christian and member of Maple Springs Baptist Church of Ronda. He retired from Lowes Distribution Center in Statesville. Mr. Billings was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid fisherman, carpenter and woodworker.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a sister, Virginia Soots.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Billings of the home; son, John Billings, Sr. and his wife Julie of Hays; daughter, Janessa Wells and her husband Nathan of Hays; stepdaughters, Patricia Gunter and her husband David of Mt. Airy, Carla Shumate and her husband Dale of N.Wilkesboro, Janice Foster and her husband pastor Keith of N. Wilkesboro; sister, Reba Pearson of Hays; grandchildren, Ashley Billings Walker and her husband Jeremy, Aaron Billings and his wife Hannah, John Billings Jr, Jackson Billings, Jacob Williams, Caleb Williams, Paige Wells, Parker Wells, and Levi Wells; step-grandchildren, Casey Parano and her husband Alan, Candice Woodle and her husband Brad, Samantha Wagoner and her husband Terry, Tony Gregory, Josh Engle, Brian Foster,Jr., and Elizabeth Foster; and numerous great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Ponder and Rev. Keith Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
