Kathleen Darnell Collins

Mrs. Kathleen Darnell Collins, age 86, of Elkin passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Collins was born August 6, 1936 in Surry County to Paul Darnell and Lexie Carter Darnell.

Mrs. Collins was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she worked with the children’s ministry for many years, served as a choir member, director of Vacation Bible School, and sang with the Pleasant Hill Trio. She was the owner-operator of Collins Unlimited for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Winnon Arphew Collins; son, Michael Collins; son-in-law, Luther Draughn; and sister, Earline Spencer.

Survivors include: her son, Eddie Collins and his wife Cathy of Wilkesboro; daughter, Diane Draughn of Elkin; daughter-in-law, Donna Collins of North Wilkesboro; sister, Carol Barker and her husband Gaither of Elkin; brother-in-law, R.L. Spencer of Elkin; grandchildren, Holly Blair and her husband Jason, Travis Collins and his wife Nicole, Morgan Collins, Garrett Collins; great-grandchildren, Gracie Blair, Sophie Blair, Reece Collins, River Collins, Crosby Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
