Kenneth Leonard Wood

Rev. Kenneth Leonard Wood, age 85, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation.  Rev. Wood was born February 17, 1937 in Alleghany County to William and Alie Royal Wood.  He was a member of Double Creek Baptist Church where he was a former pastor.  Rev. Wood was a former pastor of many churches in Wilkes County, NC including Mining Ridge, Liberty Knob, Mountain Valley, Old Roaring River, and Union in the Austin community.  He retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a longtime farmer.  Rev. Wood enjoyed cutting firewood and gardening, where he loved sharing his abundance with family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nellie Jean Norman Wood; brothers, Ernest Wood, Ray Wood, Elmer Wood, Boyd Wood, Homer Wood, Staley Wood, and Bryce Wood; sisters, Alma Lee Wood Pruitt and Betty Mae Wood Blevins.

Survivors include: sons, Rev. Joseph Kenneth Wood, Sr. and wife Debbie of State Road and Joel Eric Wood and wife Melissa of Elkin; brother, Bruce Wood and wife Ruth Ellen of Sparta; 3 grandchildren, Rev. Joseph Kenneth Wood, Jr.  and wife Annika, Erica Wood Mathis and husband Cory Mathis; and Cory William Wood; and 1 great-grandchild, Kaylee Brooke Mathis.

Rev. Wood will lie in state Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Mining Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Danny Dodds, Rev. Joe Wood and Rev. Mike Smith officiating.
