Mr. Larry Lance Hartle of Roaring River, NC passed away on February 7, 2024, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC after a brief illness. He was born October 30, 1937, in Forsyth County to the late Meredith Elizabeth Elliott and Howard Amos Hartle. Larry served in the United States Marines Corp and afterward served in the United States Army at a missile site stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He loved his time in Alaska and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, nature, and the camaraderie of locals. Larry brought that sense of outdoor sportsmanship back to North Carolina. He was an avid observer of all creatures, big and small, at his farm in Wilkes County. He had a kind heart. He loved his family dearly, and we all loved him. Larry loved to talk. Anyone who knew him will attest to that. He often spoke of his military stints, his time working as a Teamster in the trucking industry in Winston-Salem and Charlotte NC, and his everyday observations as a farmer in Roaring River. He loved spending time on the beaches of NC with a hook in the water and his feet in the sand. Larry was a giant man standing tall and muscular. As a younger man with a full beard, he was quite bear-like. However, Larry was the opposite. An old softie with compassion for people and animals, ideals, and human rights. Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jo Ann Hartle, and daughter, Jody Lance Hartle (Richard Wistar Wooldredge), son, Jeremy Craig Hartle (Amy Jo Hartle), and grandchildren Nicholas McMillan Wooldredge, Andrew Elliott Hartle, Sarah Elizabeth Wooldredge, Nathaniel Craig Hartle and Meredith Grace Hartle. All services will be private.
