Linda Gay Ashburn

Ms. Linda G. Ashburn, age 75, of Winston Salem, North Carolina, formerly of State Road, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at her home at Arbor Ridge in Stanleyville. Linda was born May 27, 1948, in Forsyth County to Clifford Leo and Virginia Crabb Ashburn. Ms. Ashburn was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in State Road.

Linda spent 40 years working on the campus of Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina and enjoyed a wealth of friendships there. She also loved children and especially babies. She would happily volunteer for nursery duty, and no mother ever had to hold a fussing baby while Linda was around.

In addition to her friends, family, and all the babies she met, the other thing that gave Linda a lot of joy was crafting. She loved making cards for people, creating jewelry, or learning a new hobby. A trip to Hobby Lobby was always an adventure for her.

She courageously fought cancer for decades, always responding to the worst treatments positively and answering inquiries with “I’m okay,” expressing confidence that God was taking care of her.

Survivors include her mother, Virginia C. Ashburn of State Road; her brother, Clifford L. Ashburn, Jr., and wife Beth of Pfafftown; her sister, Sandra K. Young, and husband Bill of Raleigh; nephews, Brad Smith, David Ashburn and wife Megan, Brian Ashburn and wife Meghan, Zachary Ashburn and wife Sally and niece, Kellie Roberson and husband Dwayne. Linda was especially blessed by their children who were all very special to her (in order of age): Claire, Rosalie, Scarlett, Micah, Kayson, Jane, Jayson, Ava, and Elsie Wray.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. David Ashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.
