Linda Charlene Adkins Swaim, age 67, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Linda was born May 24, 1956 in Surry County to Allen Hassell and Anne Sutherland Adkins.
Linda was a graduate of Elkin High School and graduated from East Carolina University in 1978 with a B.S. in Education. She retired from the Wilkes County School System after 39 years of service; having taught special education for several years at C.B. Eller and East Wilkes Middle School. Linda was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting shut-ins, teaching women’s Bible study groups and most of all sharing the love of Jesus with children. Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all she met. Her selfless love and dedication to her faith, family and friends will truly be missed.
Survivors include her husband Barry J. Swaim of the home, two sons, Harry Swaim and wife Katrina of Wilmington, Richard Swaim and wife Dawn of Thurmond, a goddaughter, Emily Smith, a sister, Cathy Adkins and Earl Leininger of Weaverville, a sister-in-law, Vickie Pendergrass of Elkin, eleven grandchildren, Christian, Alexus, Bailey and husband Tristan, Ethan, Trendon, Dominic, Lucas, Logan, Conner, Valerie, and Zach.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Children’s Program PO Box 38 State Road, NC 28676.
