Linville Mayford Barker

Mr. Linville Mayford Barker, age 96, of Roaring River passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville.

Linville was born in Surry County on January 1, 1928, to Joseph and Mary Harp Barker.

Mr. Barker was a farmer who worked the land raising cattle, poultry, and tobacco throughout his life.   He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. Linville was a dedicated member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 57 years.  He also assisted in the organization of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Louise Cockerham Barker and a grandson, Andy Cothren.

Survivors include daughters, Wilma B. Harter, Barbara Cothren and husband, James, six grandchildren, Beth Laskey and husband Rod, Bonni Markovich and husband Aaron, Teri Collins and husband Jimmy, Wesley Swaim, Brandi Steel and Darren Creed.  Also left to carry on his legacy are six great-grandchildren, James Steele, Bekka Collins, Peyton Laskey, Patrick Markovich, Kale Laskey and Callie Markovich.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Danny Bauguess and Dr. Allen Barker officiating.  Following the service, burial will take place at Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Elkin Funeral Service from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm prior to the service.
