Mrs. Lisa Rena Cothren Royal, age 52, of State Road passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Royal was born August 16, 1969 in Surry County to Ira Grant Cothren and Shirley Brown Grubbs.
Mrs. Royal was a member of White Rock United Methodist Church, past employee of Yveddi, and worked for Spicer’s Fish Lake. She was a first responder and secretary with Austin Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Alan Royal; maternal grandparents, John and Lela Brown; paternal grandparents, Bonson and Callie Cothren; and father-in-law, J.C. Royal.
Survivors include: her mother, Shirley Grubbs and husband Stephen of Cana, VA; brother, Calvin Cothren of Jonesville; mother-in-law, Tonia Spicer and husband Larry of Elkin; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at White Rock United Methodist Church with Dr. Richard Brinegar and Rev. William Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the local church or volunteer fire department of the donor’s choice.
