Louise Cockerham Barker, age 91, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Barker was born December 1, 1932 in Wilkes County to Lester and Marie Tilley Cockerham.
Louise was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church and WMU. Louise loved farming with her husband and her partner in life Linville. She was known for sewing, crafts and especially enjoyed making and sharing her Chrismons. Her family and grandchildren were her prized possessions. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Cockerham, sister, Estaline Draughn, and a grandson, Andy Cothren.
Survivors include, her husband of 72 years, Linville Barker of the home, two daughters, Wilma Harter of Kannapolis, Barbara Cothren and husband James of Roaring River, five grandchildren, Beth Laskey and husband Rod, Bonni Markovich and husband Aaron, Terri Collins and husband Jimmy, Wesley Swaim, Brandi Steele and Darren Creed, six great grandchildren, James Steele, Bekka Collins, Peyton Laskey, Patrick Markovich, Kale Laskey, Callie Markovich.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jerry Barker and Rev. Danny Bauguess officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to Mountain Valley Hospice.
The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine for the loving care given to Louise.
