Mabel Arlene Wood

Mabel Arlene Wood, age 90, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, at her home in Elkin, surrounded by her loving family. Mabel was born April 17, 1934, in Wilkes County to Clint and Vader Hayes Wood. She retired from Lucia as a seamstress and was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Deloss Wood, three sons, Ricky Lee Wood, Randy Palmer Wood, and LeRoy Wood, and brother, Cabel Wood.

Survivors include sons Donnie and wife Linda Wood of Jonesville, Gary and wife Joyce Wood of State Road, and Danny and wife Lisa Wood of Boonville; daughters Joyce and husband Dale Vanhoy of East Bend, Debbie and husband Darren Carter of Elkin, and Brenda and husband Gary Robbins of Elkin; brother Kelly and wife Barbara Wood; sister Betty Ruth Wood; and daughter-in-law Margaret Wood. Also left to cherish her memory are 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. before the service. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Garden in State Road.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Caelee Swaim from Hugh Chatham Hospital for her unwavering support, love, and care. The family also extends its thanks to the Mountain Valley Hospice nurses, who were truly heaven-sent and provided Mabel with the best possible care during her final days.
