Mrs. Rena Mae Blackburn, age 98, passed away Sunday, August 04, 2019 at Chatham Nursing and Rehab. Mrs. Blackburn was born December 19, 1920 in Wilkes County to Lonnie and Etta Roope Richardson.
Nannie Mae was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing thrilled her more than to have her home full of family. Mae was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a faithful member of Arbor Grove Baptist Church. Mae was a Godly woman with strong Christian values and felt it important to share those values with those around her. She was a strong woman full of grace and love for others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Blackburn, a brother, Ralph Richardson, two sisters, Mary Nell Johnson and Thelma Johnson.
Survivors include, two sons; David Blackburn and wife Betty, Larry Blackburn and wife Sharon, three grandchildren; Heather Gail, Mike Blackburn and wife Crystal, Travis Blackburn and wife Julie, seven great grandchildren, three sisters, Beatrice Blackburn, Ruth Billings, Ruby Calhoun, as well and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Arbor Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Elliott Smith and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Arbor Grove Baptist Church or to Mountain Valley Hospice.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to caregivers Jennifer Colbert and Bayada Home Health Care of Elkin, as well as Chatham Nursing and Rehab and Mountain Valley Hospice nurses and staff.
