Maggie Smith Adams

Mrs. Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Smith Adams, age 78, of Clemmons passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living. Mrs. Adams was born May 15, 1943 in Wilkes County to George and Rosan Hayes Smith, Sr.

Mrs. Adams attended Shoaly Branch Baptist Church and Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. She was a graduate of Appalachian State Teacher’s College and Idaho State University. Mrs. Adams taught for over 40 years including Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools, Woodbridge, VA, Pocatello, ID, Whiteville, NC, and Watauga County. She enjoyed traveling, especially in her RV, crafting, and was an excellent cook, spoiling her friends with wonderful food.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George Smith, Jr., Harvey Smith, Franklin Smith, Gene Smith, Bill Smith; and sister, Blanche McCann.

Survivors include: her husband of 56 years, James M. Adams of the home; daughter, Jamie Brown and husband Kenneth of Clemmons; brother, Dave Smith and wife Wilma of Elkin; sisters-in-law, Lena Smith, Annie Mae Smith and Johnsie Smith; granddaughter, Katherine Brown; numerous nieces and nephews and canine companion, Mia.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, May 28, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mallard Ridge Assisted Living and Mountain Valley Hospice for their care.
