Margaret Groce Smoot

Mrs. Margaret G. Smoot, age 97, of Elkin passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin.

Mrs. Smoot was born September 21, 1925 in Yadkin County to Floyd Thomas and Bessie Shore Groce. She was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church, and retired from Sunbeam.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Smoot was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Smoot; 5 brothers, 3 sisters and an infant great granddaughter, Gracie Branon.

Survivors include: daughters, Kathy Vanhoy and husband Wayne of Jonesville, Dianne Mantero and husband Jack of Elkin; grandchildren, Melissa Branon and Matthew Smith; great grandchildren, Tyler Branon and Shawn Branon; great-great granddaughter, Cali Branon.

A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating.  The family will receive friends at Elkin Funeral Service from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

The family requests memorials be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 N. Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC  28621.
