Mrs. Cora Marie Cockerham Steele, age 94, passed away Sunday June 12, 2022 at her residence. Mrs. Steele was born September 2, 1927 in Surry County to Robert Ervie and Eddis Willey Cockerham.
Marie was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she served as president of WOM #1 and also served as church treasurer for many years. She was also a member of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Marie retired from Sunbeam and after her retirement she worked for Ratledge Florist for several years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Posey Steele, two brothers and sisters-in-law, William Avery & Ann Cockerham, James Robert & Joann Cockerham, a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Cockerham & Turk Teague.
Survivors include, three daughters, Linda Steele of Elkin, Carol Andrews of Elkin, Marilyn Jones and her husband Carl of Tampa, Florida, two grandchildren, Spring Cave and her husband Dale of Hamptonville, Will Jones and wife Michelle of Tampa, Florida, three great grandchildren, Danielle Cecil, Evan Ayers, Ryder Cecil, one great great granddaughter, Aria, her special dog, Zoe.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm prior to the service.

The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice, Feed the Elderly, Care South (especially Jean & Peggy) and Pastor Chad Whitley and the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Family for the love and care given to Marie during her illness.
