Mary Carter

Mrs. Mary Louise Simmons Carter, age 97, of Thurmond passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022 at her home. Mrs. Carter was born June 4, 1925 in Surry County to Charlie and Eunice Martin Simmons.

Mrs. Carter was a member of Central Full Gospel Church and retired from Lucia. Mrs. Carter was musically talented and was a talented pianist, guitarist, and songwriter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Coy Watson Carter; sisters, Carol Adkins, Annie Gaither, Irene Shore, Kathleen Widner; brother, Lawrence Simmons; sons-in-law, Jimmy Shore and Frank Shaffner.

Survivors include: her daughters, Carolyn Shore, Jeanette Moxley and her husband Jim, Shirley Hill and her husband Tommy, Lynn Wilmoth and her husband Rick; son, Ronnie Carter; sister, Helen Neese; grandchildren, Teresa, Kristi, Stacy, Tabitha, Julie, Chris, Shannon, Steven, Hannah; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Brandon, Tanner, Ben, Cara, Augusta, Kayden, Ashten, Chloe, Makayla, Isaac, Elijah, Aviana, Trevor, Kaleb, Savanna, Brittany; great-great grandchildren, Jade, Ryleigh, Tye, Jett, Jaycee; many loving nieces and nephews; and grand-dog Socks.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, July 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Central Full Gospel Church with Rev. Bobby Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
