Mary Lee Durham Layell

Mrs. Mary Lee Durham Layell, age 87, of Elkin passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Layell was born August 17, 1934 in Wilkes County to John Everett Durham and Effie Jane Hanks Durham.

Mrs. Layell was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church and retired from Lucia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Layell.

Survivors include: her sons, Johnny Layell and his wife Darlene of Elkin and Benny Layell and his wife Chastity of Elkin; two grandchildren, Kaylee Hutchens and her husband Austin and Julie Holcomb and her husband Colby; and two great-grandchildren, Abby Hutchens and Jarrett Holcomb.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church with Rev. James Hall and Rev. Keith Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
