Mattie Brown Cranford, age 85, of State Road, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at Woltz Hospice Home. Mattie was born on December 30, 1938, to Burton and Minnie Barker Brown.
After working for several years at Washington Mills and Chatham Manufacturing, she retired from Hugh Chatham Hospital in 2000. She was a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church.
Mattie was the oldest of six girls; she loved working in her yard and the flowers. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Cranford; daughter, Barbara Butcher; grandson, Brandon Hamby; sister, Cora Lee Dodson; sister-in-law, Norma Taylor; brothers-in-law Ervin Dodson, Wilson Tilley, William Taylor, Clinton Cranford, John Jones, and J.D. Groce.
Survivors include daughters Mary Hinson and Nancy Billing; four sisters, Hazel Groce, Opal Jones, Olene Beach and husband Alvis, Judy Cook and husband, J.D., grandchildren Daniel & Christy Billings, Melissa & Michael Craig; Christy Hinson and Cole Hinson; great-grandchildren Kynli, Easton, Danielle, Nathaniel, and Maggie; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, with her nephew, Pastor Ken Tilley officiating.
The family would like to thank Ramona Pardue and Lori Ward with Mountain Valley Hospice and Jennifer Marion with Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine for the loving care given to Mattie during her illness.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or to Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
