Maude Billings Brown

Mrs. Maude Billings Brown, age 102, was called to her heavenly home on January 6, 2021. Mrs. Brown was born June 18, 1918 in Wilkes County to John Harrison and Flora Lyon Billings.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in State Road, NC. She loved the Lord and proved it by her Christian walk. Miss Maude was a mother and homemaker working tirelessly at her sewing machine making beautiful garments. She was well known for her smocked baby dresses and quilts. For the past twelve years, she was a volunteer at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Auxiliary working in the Cardiac Rehab Department as an encourager to the patients. The Rehab department honored her yearly with wonderful birthday parties. She loved the time spent there and made many friends. We would like to thank department director, Ali Wood and her team for loving her so well. Everyone who met her fell in love with her sweet smile and kind spirit, her life was a life well lived.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Brown; an infant daughter, Flora Emalene Brown; twin brother, Claude Billings; brothers, Garland Billings, Marvin Billings; sisters, Cannie Rhymer, Lala Speaks, Pearl McGee, Lessie Miller, Ruby Call; and an infant grandson, Richard Scott Luffman.

Survivors include: daughters, Linda Lyon of Clemmons, NC, Pat Luffman and husband Dicky of State Road, NC; grandson, Tony Smith and wife Ann of State Road, NC; great-grandson, Tyler Smith and wife Gina of State Road, NC; great-great grandson Noah; and many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6440 Austin-Traphill Rd, Elkin, NC 28621, with Mrs. Brenda Ratledge and Rev. Dennis Ball officiating. Mrs. Brown will lie-in-state Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Ln, Suite 201, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
