Mettie Elizabeth Hiatt

Miss Mettie Elizabeth Hiatt, who was lovingly known as “Lib”, was born March 18, 1945 in Surry County to the late John Alex and Kate Eads Hiatt. Elizabeth worked with the US Department of Agriculture for 39 years until retiring as County Executive Director for Sampson County. Miss Hiatt loved to travel, especially to the beach to enjoy time with her friends and her devoted family. She loved anytime she could spend with her “Children” which consisted of her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Miss Hiatt was a faithful member of Maplewood Baptist Church where she was active on several committees and enjoyed singing in the adult choir. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Clark Hiatt. Surviving are her beloved sisters, Wilma H. Rogers, Linda (Roger) Spicer, Sue (Frank) Reynolds; brothers, James (Shirley) Hiatt, Wayne (Mary Alice) Hiatt, Ronnie (Mary Elizabeth) Hiatt, Johnny (Melissa) Hiatt; her sister-in-law, Barbara Hiatt; her nephews, Greg Hiatt, Michael (Leslie) Witt, Tim (Jacqueline) Hiatt, Robert (Colleen) Hiatt, Paul (Crystal) Spicer; Nieces, Tracie Hiatt Grubbs, Robin Hiatt, Mitzi (Stephen) Berrier, Amanda (Will) Gaddy, Kimberly (Ryan) Owens, Casey (Michael) Irvin, Alison (Keith) York; 6 great-nieces; 14 great-nephews; 3 step nieces; 1 step nephew; 6 step great-nephews; and 4 step great-nieces. The family will received friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, April 18, 2025 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 19, 2025 in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Lancaster and Rev. Phillip Brown. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 1029 Crossroads Church Road, Dobson, NC 27017. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maplewood Baptist Church, or Mountain Valley Hospice 276 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27018, or to a charity of the Donor’s Choice.
