Mildred Wagoner Muncus Casstevens, age 84, passed away after an extended illness at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson on Sunday, August 11, 2024. She was born on July 7, 1940, to the late Lonnie Rufus Wagoner and Zella Seagraves Wagoner.
She was a long-time faithful member of Marler Road Baptist Church. She loved the lord and adored preacher Randy Johnson and his wife Tanya. Her church family was an essential part of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Allen Dean Muncus, second husband of 17 years, Phillip Green Casstevens, sister Lois Wagoner Mathis, and grandson, Brandon Matthew Harris, and her feline companion, Dumpy.
She was known as Mil to those who knew her. Mil worked at Hanes Hosiery for 18-plus years. She was a supervisor during part of this time. Later, she partially owned Muncus Brother’s Produce here in Elkin, NC. She was a people person, loving her customers and making hundreds of fruit baskets for churches within the area at Christmas time.
Mil loved her family and friends. She was called Nanny by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She made sure she was available to help out in times of need.
Mil was a wonderful, loving, and faithful caregiver to her mother and both of her husbands. She had many talents, a few of which included sewing, ceramics, working in the yard, feeding wildlife, and she was a master at keeping her hands busy in the kitchen. Her breakfast meals and potato salad were the best. Also, she and her daughter made punched-out paper lampshades. She received a particular order from Goldie Hawn and Rob Ryner through flea markets. However, her favorite pastime of all was shopping.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Muncus Harris and David “Cotton” Harris of State Road, grandson Patrick Harris of State Road; granddaughter Megan and Jordan Durham of Roaring River; four greatgrandchildren, Ally Kennedy, Erin Kennedy, Katelyn Kennedy, and Lucas Durham; sister Wanda Hagood; brother-in-law Sandy Hagood of Easley SC; niece Debbie and Lynn Myers of Elkin; great niece Ashley and Rich James; great nephew Richard Myers, several lifelong special friends, a host of cousins, and her feline companion, Miss Kitty.
