Mr. Roy “Mitchell” Wagoner, Jr., age 61, of Elkin passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Mitchell was born February 25, 1960, to Roy Wagoner, Sr. and Dela Temple Wagoner, who preceded him in death.
Mitchell was a lifelong member of Arlington First Baptist Church. He graduated from Starmount High School and attended Forsyth Technical Community College. He proudly served 4 years in the United States Navy. Mitchell enjoyed working for the North Carolina Department of Highways and previously for Vulcan Materials, where he considered his colleagues to be friends and family. All who knew him would say Mitchell had a huge personality, quick wit, a gift for storytelling, and enormous love for his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years, Amy Phillips Wagoner; children, Ian Wagoner, Tyler Wagoner (fiancée Kimberly Finnell), and Courtland Wagoner Kunz (William) all of Charlotte; sisters, Catherine Fetner (Ron) of Seaford, VA, and Vann Clanton (David) of Jonesville; nephew, Levi Shore (Ginger) and great-nephew, Silas Shore all of Elkin; uncle, Alfred (Betty) Wagoner of Jonesville; best friend, Rick (Sherry) Caudle of Elkin, as well as many in-laws, cousins, and close friends that will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Arlington First Baptist Church in Jonesville, with Rev. Chris Alford and Rev. Jerry Fugate officiating.
