Mozelle Simmons Holcomb

Mrs. Mozelle Simmons Holcomb, age 93, of Thurmond passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mrs. Holcomb was born January 31, 1929 in Surry County to Phoy and Margie Ellen Wilmoth Simmons.

Mrs. Holcomb was a member of Welcome Home Missionary Baptist Church.  She was an active member of Thurmond Community Center and enjoyed baking, especially pound cakes.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Jesse Holcomb; brothers, James Thomas Simmons, Odell Simmons, Junior Simons, Walter Ray Simmons and Chip Simmons; and sisters, Helen S. Holcomb, Irene S. LeHardy and Wilma Norman.

Survivors include: her son, Jesse Stephen Holcomb of Thurmond; her daughters, Gail Norman and her husband Donald of State Road, Libby H Wagoner of Bent Mountain, VA and Tammie Holcomb of Sparta; brothers, Tink Simmons and Jerry Simmons and his wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Matthew Wagoner, Tommy Poindexter, Neil Norman, Jessica Lolley, Derick Poindexter, Miranda Holcomb, Carrey Ellis, Brannon Holcomb, Brook Kesterson, Morgan Houck and Stephen Holcomb; 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, January 1, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jerry Simmons and Rev. Greg Simmons officiating.  Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
