Muriel Johnson Golden

March 14, 1928 — February 28, 2020

The battle is over, the victory has been won. Mrs. Muriel Johnson Golden was born March 14, 1928 in Surry County to S.W. and Dona Simpson Johnson. She left this earth for her heavenly home on February 28, 2020. She would have been 92 years old on March 14. Muriel was married to Robey Golden for 58 years before he passed away in 2003.

Mrs. Golden was a member of Mining Ridge Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dixie, Delmar, Isaac, Metta, Eula, Glenn, Dayton, and Smith.

Mrs. Golden is survived by her son, Thomas Golden and wife Brenda; daughter, Jennifer Swift and husband Mike; grandchildren, Melissa Sewell and husband Aaron, Adam Swift and wife Caity; Jacob Swift and fiancé Mary Kathryn; great-grandchildren, Ashley Sewell and Eli, Maddie Swift, Zach Swift; sisters-in-law, Polly Johnson, Stella Golden, Helen Garris, Alice Golden; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Mining Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Atkins and Pastor Terry Longworth officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks for the care given by the staff at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation for the last 10.5 years. Thank you all for taking good care of her, singing with her, and most of all for loving her.

Special thanks go out to Lara Johnson who was with us the entire time and Chris McCraw who was with us for seven years. They helped make the transition easier for Muriel and Jennifer and were angels place in our paths from God and became part of our family. Special thanks also to Debbie Ford, Sally, and Amber from Mountain Valley Hospice for making our last few weeks easier.
