While known to many for her talented trade of sewing goods, Nancy Ann Branscome Simmons sewed much more than that. She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that proudly stitched together a strong and loving family, who will forever remember her for the selfless love she wove into each of them.
Nancy Ann Branscome Simmons passed away peacefully at her home in North Wilkesboro on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the age of 82.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church but attended Liberty Grove Baptist Church for the past eight years where she was loved by all.
While born in West Virginia, Nancy spent most of her adult life here in Wilkes County, surrounded by her family and friends. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Lacy Wade and Verda Hamm Branscome; husband, Phoy B. Simmons, Jr.; sister, Bobbye Jean Simmons; and sons-in-law, Greg Newman and Eddie Blackburn. She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie Shelton, Sharon Shoupe and husband Eddie, and Annette Blackburn. She also had nine grandchildren, Matthew Holbrook and wife Erin, Andrew Holbrook, Samantha Comer and husband Josh, Allison Newman, Dillon Shoupe, Caleb Shoupe, Sarah Shoupe, Fain Barker and husband Josh, Jamie Blackburn and wife Olivia; thirteen great-grandchildren; special niece and nephew, Cathy Macemore and David Simmons; and many more special family members.
Due to covid-19, the family will have a private graveside service at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with a memorial at a later date. Mrs. Simmons will lie-in-state Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for making Mama’s (Nannie’s) last journey a little easier. What a blessing to our family. We would also like to thank our wonderful church families and friends for their support, as well as, Dr. Kesi Kindle-Seursin and her staff at Yadkin Valley Adult Medicine. Dr. Kindle is such a loving, caring doctor.
