Peggy Mathis

Mrs. Peggy Ann Swaim Mathis, age 83, of Elkin passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Mathis was born July 24, 1938 in Surry County to Thad Watson and Annie Lee Royall Swaim.

Mrs. Mathis was a dedicated Christian who was strong in her faith and full of compassion. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Raeford Mathis; son, Bobby Watson Mathis; grandson, David Raeford Mathis; great-grandson, Kaleb Luke Combs; brothers, Kenneth Swaim, Steve Swaim; sister, Shirley Shores; sons-in-law, Michael Lyons, Randel Combs; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Louise Mathis.

Survivors include: her sons, Jimmie Raeford Mathis of Elkin, Danny Gray Mathis and wife Diane of Jonesville; daughters, Janet Vestal and husband Pete of Yadkinville, Kathy Huggins and husband Gregory of Jonesville, Wendy Combs of Elkin, Susan Hooker and husband Terry of Roaring River; grandchildren, Michelle North, Johnny Ray Vestal, Teaskhea Mathis, Bobby Lee Mathis, Billy Joe Mathis, Alisha Mathis, Randel Combs, Jr., Joseph Brent Combs, Austin Brady Hooker; great-grandchildren, Lilly North, Spencer North, Ruby North, Brenda Mathis, Mikey Ball, Hailey Holcomb, Hunter Combs, Noah Combs, Emma Combs, Ivy Rose Combs, Lisa Gail Combs; and canine friend, ‘Mater.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Dr. Wesley Smith officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, Stephanie Stanley, Nurse Debbie Ford, and family and friends for their love and support.
