Phillip Edward Royall

Mr. Phillip Edward Royall, age 85, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Mr. Royall was born March 9, 1938 in Surry County to Joseph Berton and Jessie Collins Royall. Phil was a graduate of Western Carolina University where he played football and baseball.  He received Master of Arts degrees from Wichita State University and Appalachian State University.  In total Phil taught in education for 43 years.  During his career he was a professor at Lees-McRae College for 28 years, where he received the outstanding educator of the year award.  Phil also taught at J.H. Rose High School, Wilkes Central High School as well as Elkin High School.  Phil was also a member of the Surry County Democratic Party.

Survivors include: son, Dan Royall and wife Kathryn of Oak Ridge; daughter, Karen Royall Craig and husband Todd of Purlear; brother, Javan Royall and wife Jean of Martinsville, Virginia; grandchildren, Kristyn Craig, Kirby Craig, Nathan Royall, and Ian Royall, a special friend and caregiver Brenda Reese of Mountain City, Tennessee and Banner Elk, North Carolina.

A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel where family and friends will share stories of remembrances and memories of Phil.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017
