Mr. Ralph Conley Smoot, age 94, of Elkin passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smoot was born January 18, 1926 in Surry County to Albert Vernon and Nonar Gambill Smoot.
Mr. Smoot was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing. He was a veteran of the United State Army and served during World War II. Mr. Smoot was a charter member of the local VFW Post, loved to golf and fish; and was a loving husband and father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Myrtle Lou Wagoner, Magdalene S. Shore; and infant, great-granddaughter, Gracie Branon.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 70 years, Margaret G. Smoot of the home; daughters, Kathy Vanhoy and husband Wayne of Jonesville, Dianne Mantero and husband Joaquin of Elkin; sisters, Edna Rayle of Boonville, Carrie “Butch” Gilliam of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Melissa Branon, Matthew Smith; great-grandchildren, Tyler Branon and wife Megan, Shawn Branon; and great-great granddaughter, Cali Branon.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Elkin Valley Trails Association, PO Box 91, Elkin, NC 28621.
The family would like to thank the Elkin area doctors and staff; Yadkin Valley Home Health, Home Instead of North Wilkesboro, and special caregiver, Kristy Wall-Collins for their care.
