Raymond Edward Gentry

Mr. Raymond Edward Gentry, age 85, of Roaring River passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gentry was born April 15, 1936 in Wilkes County to Spurgeon and Ruby Walters Gentry.

Mr. Gentry was a member of Benham Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer; a past employee of Vaughn Bassett and the Elkin Tribune; and an avid Bluegrass musician and fiddle player.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Gentry; brothers, Bob Gentry and Eldon Gentry.

Survivors include: sons, Mark Gentry and wife Velvet of Elkin; Scott Gentry of Roaring River; grandchildren, Zachary Gentry of Morrisville and Zetta Gentry of Elkin.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Benham Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Souther and Rev. Julius Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gentry will lie-in-state from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
