Richard Dale Combs

Mr. Richard “Beet” Dale Combs, age 73, of Statesville passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022 at his home. Beet was born July 19, 1948 in Surry County to Earlie and Eva Burcham Combs.

Beet was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a US Army veteran serving in Germany during the Vietnam Era. He graduated from Elkin High School and worked at Combs Produce as a young man and later retired from Mountaire Farms in Statesville. Beet was an avid Elkin High School football fan and enjoyed the Carolina Tarheels and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bud Combs; sisters, Lucille O’Neill, Betty Holbrook, Frankie Caudle, and Shirley Hampton.

Survivors include: his nieces and nephews, Jeff Combs, Elaine Coe, Perry Holbrook, Teresa Rogers, Greg Caudle, Keely Hensley and Diane Swaim.

A memorial service with full military honors will be conducted Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at a later date at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
