Robert David Thrift

Robert David Thrift, age 54, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, February 19, 2024.  Robert was born March 31, 1969 in Guilford County to David Wesley and Sarah Louise Robinson Thrift.

Robert graduated from Elkin High School in 1987 and was a graduate of DeVry Technical Institute in Atlanta, GA.  Robert worked in Atlanta for several years and climbed towers installing and repairing equipment.  He was a long time member of Elkin Presbyterian Church.  Robert was also a member of Elkin Rescue Squad where he was trained as an Emergency Rescue Technician as well as OSFM’s High Angle Rescue. Robert was a member of Elkin Masonic Lodge 454.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Wesley Thrift, his mother, Sarah Robinson Williams and his step-father, Douglas Davis Williams.

Survivors include, his sister, Ame Martha Elise Thrift, who loved and cared for him so much, of Yadkinville, three nieces, Megan Elise Hodges, Victoria Lee Tilley, Natalee Sarah Payne, nephew, Dawson Gray Payne, his step-mother, B.J. Thrift, his two cats, who he adored, Clarence and Bruiser, and lots of caring and loving friends.

A celebration of life will be held on March 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Presbyterian Church.  Inurnment will follow in Elkin Presbyterian Church Columbarium.  The family will receive friends following the  inurnment.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial be made to the Children’s Home Society of NC, PO Box 14608 Greensboro, NC 27415 Attn: Accounting, or to a local animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
