Rocky Charles Lyons

February 3, 1957 — April 15, 2024

Mr. Rocky Charles Lyons, age 67, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Rocky was born February 3, 1957, in Yadkin County to Billy Charles and Elizabeth Mastin Lyons. Rocky attended East Wilkes High School. After his graduation, he continued his support of East Wilkes Athletics where he served as President of the East Wilkes Youth Football program for over 10 years. He was employed at Southeastern Cars and Parts for over 38 years. Rocky was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elkin. He loved his church family very much.  Rocky was a loving husband, father, son, and “Papa”. His family was his pride and joy. Rocky raced at Friendship Motor Speedway for years and his love of racing continued for many years. He was heavily involved in Wilkes County politics and served his community in various roles. He was a proud member of the Republican Party and many saw his welcoming smile at the polls. He also served on the Wilkes County Planning Board and jury selection committee.

Rocky was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Mastin, brother, Eric Lyons, brother-in-law, Roger Nance, mother-in-law, Avanell Poindexter, father-in-law, James Olin “JO” Poindexter, grandmother Minnie Lyons, grandmother, Susie Mastin, and grandfather, Hugh Lyons.

Survivors include his wife, Scarlet P. Lyons of the home; two sons, Clifton James “CJ” Lyons and wife Jenna Colbert Lyons of Elkin, Austin Charles Lyons and wife Ashley Bryan Lyons of Elkin, father, Billy Charles Lyons and wife Susan of Jonesville; brother, Robby Lyons and wife Teresa of Jonesville; sisters, Sandra Royal of Winston-Salem, Susan Nance of Elkin; sister-in-law, Michelle Wagoner and husband, Greg of Elkin; three grandchildren, Piper Lyons, Finley “Finn” Lyons and Olivia Lyons; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Wood and Rev. Danny Poindexter officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson for their wonderful care and Mountain Valley Hospice for their care in the home.  A very special thanks to nurses, Caitlyn, and Candace and CNA Stephanie. A very special thanks to Randall “Rudy” Holbrook for being a special friend and employer.
