Ruth Gregory

Mrs. Ruth Hazel Reynolds Gregory, age 75, of Elkin passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born April 3, 1945 in Wilkes County to Kemp and Mary Isabell Luffman Reynolds.

Mrs. Gregory was a member of Little Elkin Baptist Church and retired from Suncrest Farms.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Billy Ray “Tip” Gregory; son-in-law, Garry Gentry; brother, Charlie Reynolds; half-brother, Odell Baker and wife Norma Jean Baker; half-sister, Marie Baker; and brother-in-law, Earl Wagoner.

Survivors include: daughter, Karen Layell and husband Jeff of State Road; stepdaughters, Kim Gentry Hudspeth and husband Steve of Thurmond, Kathy Eskridge and husband Mike of Jonesville; brother, Maynard Reynolds and wife Shirley of State Road; half-brother, Johnny Baker of Thomasville; sisters, Idesta Lyon and husband Joe of Elkin, Maxine Wagoner of Roaring River, twin sister Ruby Hawkins and husband Jim of Thurmond, Cathy Collins and husband Eddie of Wilkesboro; sister-in-law, Jolene Reynolds of North Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Erin Eskridge, Kurt Eskridge and fiancée Jessica Argo, Nick Gentry and wife Kasey, Sarah Gentry Marshall and husband Ronald; great-grandchildren, Presley Swaim, Ian Gentry, Gage Marshall, and Natalie Pearl Marshall.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Little Elkin Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Keith Lyon and Rev. Seth Siceloff officiating. Mrs. Gregory will lie-in-state Tuesday from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Little Elkin Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1161 Little Elkin Church Rd, Ronda, NC 28670 or Stone’s Throw Christian Ministries, 1927 N. Bridge St., Elkin, NC 28621.
