Sheila "Gale" Conley

Mrs. Sheila “Gale” Mathis Conley of North Wilkesboro departed this world on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 with family at her side. Cancer won the battle, but Gale won the war and went to claim her robe and crown. Mrs. Conley was born November 1, 1955 in Yadkin County to Jake and Doris Gray Mathis.

Gale and devoted husband Ray Conley were married in 1972, and still held hands and spoke many I Love Yous to each other. In recent years they spent time at the beach fishing, shopping, and making many friends. At 65 years young, Gale maintained a love for all, especially her Lord and Savior. She pocessed an infectious laugh and sense of humor. Gale and Ray were members at Middle Cross Baptist Church and dearly loved their church family. If Gale told you she would pray for you, she did. She kept her own prayer list and always followed up. She didn’t just give lip service. We cross paths with many in our lifetime and Gale was a blessing to all.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Grace and Weaver Gray “Mommy and Daddy”.

Survivors include: her loving husband, Ray Conley; adored children, daughter, Renee Call and husband Jody and son, Christopher Conley; mother, Doris Mathis; sister, Sharon Holcomb and fiancé Jerry Shore; and nephew Billy Holcomb III and wife Amy.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Tim Call, Rev. Tommy Conley, and Rev. Jason Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in Dennville Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Conley will lie-in-state Friday, May 2021 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
