Mrs. Shirley Brown Carter, age 86, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Carter was born December 23, 1935 in Wilkes County to Quincy and Alice Dillard Brown.
Mrs. Carter was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She held many positions in the church including the Ladies Circle, Choir and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Carter retired from Jack A. Underdown Realty in Elkin.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her adopted parents, Monroe and Molly Dillard; husband, Walter Ted Carter; her Brown brothers and sisters, Lonnie, Mable, Cecil, Ruth, Clarence, John Dee and her twin sister Nannie; her Dillard brothers and sisters, Dean, Gwyn, Clate, Danie, Myrtle, J.T., Imogene and Ruth.
Survivors include: sons, Tony Carter and wife Nita of Roaring River and Terry Carter and wife Brenda of Ronda; brother, Art Brown of N. Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Alex Carter of Roaring River, Christy Mathis of Kernersville, Kendra Longworth of Maryville, TN, Tonya Forrest of Morehead City, Elizabeth Carter of Ronda; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Wood and Pastor Mitch Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church.
