Sue Virginia Hoots

Mrs. Sue Virginia Hoots, age 73, of Jonesville, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Sue was born in Clay County, N.C., to Astor and Dorothy Martin Wikle.

Sue was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. She retired as a dental assistant; she enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping and had such a gift for writing poems.

Sue's parents passed away when she was two years old, and she was moved to an orphanage in Thomasville until Paul and Mable Newman brought her and two other little girls home with them to love and raise.

In addition to her parent and the parents who raised her, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Self, and three grandchildren, Amelia Cleary, Ava Cleary, and Stephen Hoots.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Hoots, of the home; daughter, Jennie Wilkins and her husband Darius of Jonesville; son, Frankie Cleary and his wife Beth, of Hamptonville; step-son, Jason Hoots and his wife Jenny of Mooresville; sister Ruth Edelman of Elkin; grandchildren Nikki Cleary, Sage Hoots, Kash Hoots, Nick Wilkins, D.J. Wilkins, and several great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday, December 4, 2023, from  6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
