Sue Tharpe

Mrs. Norma Sue Haynes Tharpe, age 84, of Ronda passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Tharpe was born August 27, 1936 in Surry County to Vess Hayes and Alma Macy Haynes.

Mrs. Tharpe was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was a choir member and served with WMU-Baptist Women. Sue retired from Wilkes County Schools, was a huge supporter East Wilkes Athletic Boosters, and a dedicated community supporter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Tharpe; brother, Vess Haynes; and sister, Gerry Elledge.

Survivors include: sons, Lewis Haynes Tharpe and wife Carolyn of Roaring River, Andy Tharpe of Ronda; daughters, Susan Smart and husband Wayne of Walnut Cove, Tammie Call and husband Jackie of Ronda; brothers-in-law, Jack Elledge, Connard Tharpe; sisters-in-law, Hope Combs, Betty Tharpe, Margaret Haynes; beloved grandmother to Justin Call and wife Jessica, Logan Call and wife Kim, Seth Call and wife Lacey, Lindsay Scott and husband Matt, Nathan Tharpe and wife Hailey, Kaity Tharpe, Andrew Tharpe, Sherry Shew; great-grandchildren, Keely Cockerham, Emory Call, Paxton Call, Eden Call, Natalie Call, Jackson Call, Ellisyn Call, Adeline Scott, Collin Tharpe, Amelia Scott, Salem Tharpe, and Bud Tolbert.

A private funeral service will be conducted Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Murphy officiating. A public graveside will be conducted Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 2:45 p.m. at Ronda Cemetery. Mrs. Tharpe will lie-in-state Friday from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
