Sylvia G. Holbrook

Ms. Sylvia Gay Holbrook, age 69, of Ronda, conquered her battle with cholangiocarcinoma on Friday, June 3, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones.  Sylvia was born December 4, 1952, in Surry County to Luther and Esther Settle Holbrook.

Sylvia was a loving grandmother and nana. She was an avid gardener, baker and woodworker, and she also enjoyed photography and travel and was an animal lover. She was employed in the Cardiac unit at UNC Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include: her life partner of 13 years, Valarie Batten of Fuquay Varina; daughters, Jennifer Welborn and wife Katie of Ronda, Jessica Welborn and Fiancée Ginafer of Ronda; goddaughter, Eve Nelson of Fuquay Varina; brothers, Frank Holbrook and wife Brenda of Kernersville, Jerry Holbrook and wife Charlotte of Yadkinville, Gale Holbrook and wife Diane of Ronda, Danny Holbrook and wife Debbie of Rockingham; sisters, Irene Collins, of Elkin, Jane Wilmoth and husband David, of Elkin, Annie Mae Moore and husband Eddie of Elkin, grandchildren; Ila Welborn, Jaxon Welborn, Camden Nelson and several loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted, Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dunaway officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. prior to service.

The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice, Dr. Hines and the Staff of Novant Cancer Institute.
