Todd David Craig

Todd David Craig, age 60, of Purlear passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

He was born September 24, 1963 in Caldwell County to David Harold and Brenda Kirby Craig.

Todd attended Purlear Baptist Church. He was a 1981 graduate of Elkin High School and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1985 with a degree in Business. He was a member of the YOSEF Club and loved attending Appalachian State football games with family and friends.

Todd was a history buff and enjoyed participating in Civil War reenactments. He also served as a commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 810.

After retiring from the Social Security Administration, he spent his time gardening, coaching T-ball and Little League baseball, and umpiring for the Wilkes County Parks and Recreation Department. In addition, he worked as a seasonal staff member of Rendezvous Mountain State Park.

Above all, Todd loved spending time with his family, friends and his dog.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Royall Craig of the home; son, Kirby Craig of Elkin; daughter, Kristyn Craig of Purlear; his parents, David and Brenda Craig of Elkin; sister Beth Craig Hodges and husband Tim of Elkin; brother-in-law Dan Royall and wife Kathryn of Oak Ridge; nephews and nieces, Nathan Royall, Ian Royall, Haley Hodges, Kari Hodges; and his special canine companion, Cora Bell.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Jamie McGuire officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service at Elkin Funeral Service. A private committal service will be held at Purlear Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Wilkes Humane Society, 208 South Bridge Street, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.
