Mr. Thomas “Tom” Franklin Finney, age 85, of Elkin passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehab in Wilkesboro. Mr. Finney was born January 22, 1936 in Surry County to “Buzz” and Ennis Finney.
Mr. Finney was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Elkin. He graduated from Elkin High School and attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also proudly served 2 years in the U.S. Army. After over 30 years of service, Mr. Finney retired from Piedmont Airlines/US Air. He was full of life, had a huge heart, and cared for his family and friends very deeply.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
His is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lynne Finney, of Winston-Salem, his “adopted in the heart” granddaughter, Courtland Wagoner Kunz (William), of Charlotte, as well as many special cousins and close friends that will miss him dearly.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin with Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Mark Reece, Jr. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Elkin, 110 Gwyn Ave, Elkin, NC 28621; Tri County Christian Crisis Ministry, PO Box 511, Elkin, NC 28621; or any charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehab for their loving care during his brief illness.
