Tom Ray

Mr. Thomas “Tom” Durant Ray, age 88, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020.

He was born September 5, 1931 in Surry County to Walker and Cora Key Ray.  Mr. Ray was retired from Frank L. Blum Construction Co. and was a member of Bessie’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict era.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Southard Ray; grandson, Brett Ray; and 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Survivors include: son, Rex Brett Ray of Elkin; granddaughter, Madison Ann Wheeler and her husband Will; great-grandson, Wesley Brett Wheeler; nieces, Cindy McCormick and her husband John and Dixie Adkins and her husband Ron; nephew, Jimmy Ray and his wife Suzanne; and special niece, Tracy Burleson and her husband Richard.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Roger Hensley and Rev. John McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Bessie’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
