Tracy Rex Shumate

Mr. Tracy Rex Shumate, age 79, passed away Saturday October 29, 2022.  Mr. Shumate was born February 15, 1943 in Wilkes County to Monroe Tracy Shumate and Faye Miles Shumate.

Tracy was a retired diesel mechanic with Hennis Freightliners and was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Shumate and a sister, Sue Shumate.

Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, Caroline L. Shumate of the home; a son, Farrell Shumate and wife Susan of Millers Creek;  daughter, LeAnn Mathis and husband Kenny of N. Wilkesboro;  brother, Howard Shumate and wife Hattie of Hays;  sister, Diane Bauguess of Hays; three grandchildren, Cassie Johnson and husband Wesley, Faith Winters and husband Jason, Blaine Shumate and wife Sabrina.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church with Rev. Julius Blevins and Rev. Keith Wood officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
