Vera Nelson Petree

Mrs. Vera Pearl Nelson Petree, 85, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at Villages of Wilkes in N. Wilkesboro. She was born February 16, 1934 in Yadkin County to Ted and Cleo Pardue Nelson. Mrs. Petree was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir.  She was an avid outdoors person and enjoyed hunting, fishing and softball and was a former coach.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Petree, Sr.; sister, Barbara N. Welborn ans sister-in-law, Peggy Couch.

Survivors include: son, Walter Franklin Petree, Jr. of State Road; daughters, Ava Lynn Petree of Elkin and Edith Luanne Petree of Elkin; siblings, Donalene N. Winchester and her husband Doug of Sunset, SC., Butch Nelson of Ronda,  Jo Ann N. Combs of Elkin and Janice N. Stanley of Jonesville; sister-in-law, Eleanor Greene and her husband Edward of Clingman; grandchildren, Amber Schosser and her husband James, Zebediah Jordan, Krissy Hensley and her husband Daniel, Brittany Petree and Dana Prevette; and great-grandchildren, Dalton Wood, Alyssa Schosser, Hannah Schosser, Gabriel Cross, Makaila Schosser and Elizabeth Hensley.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds and Rev. Joe Wood officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Petree will lie-in-state from 1:30-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
