Verna Byrd Foster

Mrs. Verna Jackson Foster, age, 92 of Elkin passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville.

Verna was born January 11, 1932 in Wilkes County to Ernest Montgomery and Annie Barker Byrd.  She was a member of Benham Baptist Church.  Verna was a past member of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro and served as an ordained deacon after the passing of her second husband, U. W. Foster. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing as a Supervisor. Verna was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, Lions Club, and Sewing Bee Mission Sewing in N. Wilkesboro.

In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her first husband, John R. Jackson, second husband U. W. Foster, a brother, Mayford Byrd, and sister Sue Byrd Fowler.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Jackson Swaim and husband Ricky of Yadkinville, Cheryl Pardue-Chaney and husband Cliff Chaney of Advance; stepchildren, Amy Cox of N. Wilkesboro, Betty Barefoot, of Canton, GA., Hope McRorie of Lynchburg, VA., Bill Foster of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, James Byrd and wife Carol of Elkin; sister, Irene Byrd Berry of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Kelly Swaim and wife Sheri of Yadkinville, Casey Swaim and wife Christa of Hamptonville, Dr. Caleb Pardue and wife Kimberley of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Brett Pardue and wife Allison of Oxford, NC and many other extended family members.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Benham Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Souther and Dr. Brett Pardue officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
