Virginia Hudspeth Maher

Mrs. Virginia Hudspeth Maher passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and pets on Friday, October 22, 2021 at the age of 81.   A beloved mother to Timothy and Michael; sister to Nancy; and grandmother to Zebulon. She was a close friend to Brandie and Mary and many others due to her 30+ year career at Daniel Park’s law office. Virginia became a part of the operation of the legal system in Surry, Yadkin, and Wilkes County, making friends as she went about her daily business. She enjoyed lunch at the bank with her “second family” where you could see just how social she was; as it was difficult to get out of a restaurant in Elkin; because she knew everyone.  Jamie, Gina, Debbie, Cathy, Tammy, Janine, and Kim were part of her inner circle that would always be there to help her should the need arise.

As an avid reader, with a love of horses and the farm life, she spent many days at home, reading a current best-selling novel or looking out the kitchen window at her bird feeders and two horses across the street at the farm. She enjoyed her pets, her golden retriever Jack and cat Finnigan, who was rescued from the animal shelter as a kitten.  She also enjoyed riding over to the farm in her golf cart to feed the horses a few apples at the gate.

The family would like to personally thank Chester Lowe and Walter Jones for being a huge support to her in the last few years.

We will all miss her liveliness, tenacity, and humor and what she brought to all of our lives in some special way.

The family would like to ask for no flowers, but perhaps a donation for Surry County Animal Shelter, 172 County Home Road, Dobson, NC 27017, in her name.

A celebration of life will be conducted Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel.
