Wayne Byrd

Mr. W. Wayne Byrd, age 73, of Thurmond passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at his home. Mr. Byrd was born August 5, 1948 in Surry County to Alton and Elsie Harris Byrd.

Mr. Byrd was a member of Charity Hill Baptist Church; a retired driver with the North Carolina Department of Transportation; and veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Era.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Welborn Byrd.

Survivors include: his daughters, Becky Martin and husband Bobby of Thurmond, Amy Byrd of Hamptonville; sister, June Miller and husband Lonnie of State Road; grandchildren, Brandon Payne and wife Bridgette and Andrea Payne; and special friends, Avery and Louise Settle of Elkin.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Keith Wood officiating. Inurnment with military honors provided by the National Guard Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW Post 10346 will follow in Harris Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
