Mrs. Wilda Holder Gentry, age 96, of Elkin passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at The Foley Center at Chestnut Ridge in Blowing Rock. Mrs. Gentry was born December 9, 1924 in Surry County to William Verlin and Martha Ettis Tucker Holder.
Mrs. Gentry was a member of Grassy Creek United Methodist Church, a member of the choir, and the Grassy Creek Quilters. She was a self-taught musician and artist. Mrs. Gentry was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Wayne Gentry; brothers, Fred Holder, Raymond Holder, Roger Holder, Quentin Holder; sisters, Phosie H. Cockerham, Bonnie H. Burchette, and Betty H. Guyer.
Survivors include: son, Granville Wayne Gentry and wife Patricia of Taylorsville; Elaine Gentry Norris and husband Michael of Boone; brother, Reeves Holder of Elkin; sister, Emily H. Southard of Elkin; grandchildren, Joshua Gentry and wife Kathryn. Thaddeus Norris and wife Rachel, Jennifer Weber and husband Dieter, Amy Johnson and husband Taylor, Seth Norris and wife Carina; great-grandchildren, Charlie Gentry, Reeves Gentry, Sophie Norris, Eli Norris, Jane Norris, Emma Weber, Max Weber, Evelina Weber, Daisy Johnson, Emmett Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Logan Norris, and Archer Norris.
Mrs. Gentry will lie-in-state from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Elkin Funeral Service. A private graveside service will be conducted at Charity United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Prichard officiating.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Grassy Creek United Methodist Church, 145 Klondike Rd, State Road, NC 28676.
