Mr. Willie Sam Kennedy, age 86, of Harmony passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Wilkes County on March 10, 1938, to the late Hardin Claude and Maude Warren Kennedy of Traphill.
Willie enjoyed mowing his grass, fishing, and old cars. His first car was a 1931 Model A Ford and he had recently purchased another 1931 Model A Ford that he entered into the 2nd Annual Burger Barn Cruise in 2021 and won 1st place. He attended Joynes School for seven years and was taught by John Joynes for each of those years. He also attended Traphill School for an additional three years. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country for eight years before being honorably discharged. He retired from Gulistan Carpet, formerly known as J.P. Stevens in Turnersburg after 38 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Doris Ingool Kennedy, and two brothers, Frank Kennedy and H.C Kennedy.
Left to cherish his love and memories are two sons, William Kennedy of Hays, and Mack & daughter-in-law, Tracy Kennedy of Valdese, daughters, Carolin Hockersmith of Arkansas, and daughter and son-in-law, Anita & Brent Alexander of Harmony, brother, Johnny Kennedy of Hays and brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Evelyn Kennedy of Harmony, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Agnes & Paul Higgins of Oklahoma, and Ola & Dennis Norman of Traphill. Also left to carry his legacy are nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also left behind was his best friend and beloved dog, Sassy.
The funeral service to honor Willie’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel in Elkin. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jacob Scott and Pastor Ronnie Wooten. Following the service, interment will take place at Little Stone Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, with full military honors by Yadkin VFW 10346. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm prior to the funeral service.
